Excellent + Easy Wildlife
Belize is super friendly and very easy to visit – it’s only a 2.5 hour flight from Houston or Miami. The official language is English and for visitors looking for an easy tropical getaway with tons of wildlife, Belize can’t be beat. On this guided photo tour we’ll see and photograph as many species of birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals as possible. At the wonderful eco-lodges where we stay, the local guides are passionate about getting us as many wildlife sightings as possible. Belize is a great, easy place to be a wildlife photographer. All skill levels welcome and you’ll have a professional photographer (me) with you at all times to help you get the best photos possible.
Immersive Experience
Once you arrive in Belize everything is taken care of and all you’ll need to do is have fun photographing the huge diversity of birds, mammals, reptiles and other animals that Belize offers up. We’ll stay at 4 different eco-lodges, each located in the thick of the tropical wildlife action. Since Belize is such a small country we never have to drive very far and can spend our time learning and practicing the best techniques for photographing colorful birds of all sizes, unique mammals, reptiles, and more. The national bird of Belize is the Keel-billed Toucan (photo, left).Â

March 27, 2026
Fly into Philip W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City, Belize arriving sometime during late afternoon or early evening. A driver from our first hotel will be waiting for you with a sign so you know who to go with for your transfer to the hotel. We meet at 6pm in the evening at the designated hotel in Belize City, Belize.
March 28-29, 2026
We’ll be picked up at our airport hotel for an early morning transfer to the first lodge – called Lamanai Outpost. We get there by road and boat, photographing some great birds along the way. At Lamanai there are some wonderful Mayan ruins that can make for amazing backdrops for our wildlife photos.
March 30-31, 2026
Drive to our next lodge located in the La Milpa area. Here we’ll have lots of bird diversity of Belize right on the lodge property. Hopefully we’ll be able to photograph the numerous monkeys that call this place home as well. Target species include Ocellated Turkey, 6 types of hummingbirds, Howler and Spider monkeys, toucans, tanagers and many more.
April 1-2, 2026
Drive to our third lodge located in the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary area. In this area we’ll have private boat tours with professional drivers/guides who will take us out into the extensive mangrove areas searching for birds, reptiles and mammals of all kinds. Photography from the boats is always a fun challenge and we never know what we might come across. The mangrove boat trips are an exciting highlight of this tour.
April 3-4, 2026
Drive to our fourth lodge in the San Ignacio Region close to the western border with Guatemala. The wildlife in this region is completely different due to the elevation changes from our previous lodges. Hopefully we’ll get numerous chances to photograph a variety of tanagers, orioles, warblers, woodpeckers and the amazing Orange-breasted Falcon.
